Life on the Street
Our Katherine Family Services Team have been very busy supplying sleeping bags, swags and blankets to the increasing amount of homeless people in the Katherine district.
As the Dry Season Begins and the nights in Katherine become colder, our Katherine Family Services Team have been very busy supplying sleeping bags, swags and blankets to the increasing amount of homeless people in the Katherine district. We received a large donation of swags and sleeping bags through Street Swags Sydney and the Homeless Action Group in Darwin.
The KOGO group (Knit One Give One), organised a donation of wonderfully coloured crochet blankets.
This dedicated group of people knitted a large number of blankets. Demand in Katherine has been constant.
The team also donate sleeping bags and swags every year to the Barunga Festival so that the many youth groups in the area can attend.
The Northern Territory has the highest rate of homelessness in Australia with a rate of 730.7 per 10,000 people compared to the national rate of 48.9 per 10,000.
