In memory of Dr Susana Saffu

We are saddened by the news of the passing of Dr Susana Saffu, a former board member of Somerville.

Dr Saffu was a respected educator, advocate, and board member from 2017 to 2023.

With over 30 years of experience in education and community development, Susana was committed to advancing equity, inclusion, and opportunity, especially for marginalised communities.

She served in leadership roles across government and non-government sectors and inspired many through her teaching at the Batchelor Institute and Charles Darwin University.

President of the Somerville board, Andrew Caddy reflects on the years that he worked alongside Susana.

“I will remember Susana as a person who always put the best interests of Somerville’s participants first. She was committed and kind to all and devoted to family. She will be missed.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, students, and all who had the honour of knowing her.
