Youth Week: Game On Katherine!
Mario, Yoshi and around 70 young people, parents and service providers gathered in Katherine on friday to kick off Youth Week 2017 with the second annual Somerville Gaming Comp.
The Godinyayin Yirard River Arts and Cultural Centre hosted the four-round tournament over two huge screens, giving up to four players at a time in a rare a chance to test their skills against others in a friendly competition.
Supporters and friends cheered competitors through the qualifying rounds, with the top 8 competitors making it to the final tournament.
Off-screen, real-life gaming including Giant Connect 4, Tower Building, Fish Game and various board games were available for friendly, non-competitive games.
Youth and Family Support workers from Somerville and other youth service providers were on hand to share a game – a great way to provide informal coaching, mentoring and to connect young people with support services within the Katherine and wider communities.
Tournament winners left triumphant with prizes, while all participants celebrated with Pizza and soft drinks all round!
