Somerville are proud sponsors of the Dragonflies Netball Team who recently competed in the Marie Little OAM Shield.
The Dragonflies are Netball NT’s representative team for females with an intellectual disability and this was their second year competing in the Marie Little OAM Shield in Brisbane.
The Marie Little OAM Shield is the national netball championships for women with an intellectual disability.
The Dragonflies spent many hours training over the past 3 months in preparation for the championships which was only made possible by sponsorship from Somerville Community Services, Helping People Achieve, Ward Keller and Life Without Barriers.
After an intensive few days of netball, although not getting a win the NT Dragonflies had an incredible experience and made lots of new friends, which included the Australian Diamonds! This was the icing on the cake for the team, ending their campaign with a clinic with the Aussie Diamonds players and coaches which was then followed by watching them live as they took on arch rivals New Zealand in game one of the Constellation Cup.
The Dragonflies Netball Team, led by coach Chantelle Ayres, are an inspiring group of young women who will now act as role models within their communities to encourage young girls and boys to get involved in netball, no matter what their ability is.
Somerville would like to congratulate all of the athletes and officials who were a part of the team.
