Vale Nikita Peter

We are very sorry to mark the passing of Nikita Peter in Katherine.

Nikita came to live with Somerville in Katherine over 14 years ago, when she was just 12 years old.

Nikita’s radiant smile and personality captured the heart of everyone that met her, and she will be greatly missed by all of her Somerville family, far and wide.

Our love and thoughts are with all the Katherine staff, as well as Nikita’s family, housemates and friends during this very sad time.

Some memories from the staff who cared for her below:

Sylvia: I will always remember you, Nikita, as a brave and beautiful angel, who is now an angel herself, smiling and cheerful in heaven. It was a pleasure to care for you and have you in our lives. You will be in our hearts forever.

Venus: I will remember Nikita having a contagious smile. She would get cheeky sometimes when you spoke to her, she would giggle at you. She loved music and singing along with it. She was a very brave girl who overcame a lot of challenges in life.

Glenda: My memories of Nikita started way back 2011 , when I started my career as a Disability Support Worker at Somerville. My first day of work was at Nikita’s house and she was 15 years old then. I worked at her house for 3 years . I remember Nikita as sweet and a calm girl. She loved dressing up and liked her hair being pony tailed or braided. The staff loved to put different colors of ribbons on Nikita’s hair. During that time, when Nikita went out for her Community Access Program, she was always praised for her neat hairstyle and ribbons.

Allysa: Nikita was a strong and smiley girl that brightened the house every day. Nikita was always happy every time we sang and danced together.
